It's a bug in one of the rep library packages (librep8_0.11.2-1_i386.deb and/or rep_0.11.2-1_i386.deb, never bothered which of the two). Go and fetch the older one's (librep8_0.11.1-1 and rep_0.11.1-1) at <http://www.rcpt.to/dists/pending/main/binary-i386/>. After installing these two sawmill will work without mucking.
