I'm not sure how this works with kdm, but if you use bash, you can have a file called .bash_logout in your home directory with the command '/usr/bin/clear'. This will clear the screen everytime you logout. Actually, you can put practically anything here. Bash just sources it on logout. Don't know how it works with kdm though.
