Unless you need the 2.2.x kernel to run that particular laptop, I would 
reccomend using kernel 2.0.x instead.  Running the latest kernel makes less 
difference than most seem to think. If you still want or need kernel 2.2.x, 
then take a look here: http://www.debian.org/releases/slink/running-kernel-2.2 
for some usefull info about kernel 2.2.x and Slink.
