transparent yes mostly..not all tcp apps like ip masq though(same goes for NAT which is in *bsd) id say a good 95% of them don't care either way. see the IPMasq howto for this. or if your using a 2.2.x kernel you can take my example and tweak it (from my /etc/init.d/network) :
