I have a Thinkpad that requires that I leave 1MB open. Don't know why but it locks up at boot if I give it 192MB. Instead, I put append="mem=191M" and I haven't had a crash or lockup since. Of course 1MB of "missing" memory isn't a big issue for me, whereas it might be a problem to someone else. Gary
