With that entry, http://xyf will work, provided > SeverName xyf > > 127.0.0.1 www.xyf.com localhost
If I put http://xyf into my browser I get the following, Index of / Name Last modified Size Description Parent Directory 18-Nov-1999 20:07 - bottle_search_stage2..> 19-Nov-1999 20:54 1k That is with a ending of "index" for file, bottle_search_stage2. If I add "html" on the end of the file the page will load correctly but then I'm back to the same "Netscape can't find server" error. I tried changing the line "xyf" in my /etc/hosts to to "www.xyf.com" and then Apache won't start, xyf:/home/kent# apstart Starting web server: apache... failed. I just noticed this is showing up in my xconsole, I don't know what that means, I'll check and see what tcplogd is: Nov 21 08:05:40 xyf tcplogd: auth connection attempt from xyf [127.0.0.1] Nov 21 08:05:50 xyf tcplogd: www connection attempt from [EMAIL PROTECTED] [127.0.0.1] Nov 21 08:05:50 xyf tcplogd: auth connection attempt from xyf [127.0.0.1] I don't know if I will ever get this figured out. Thanks, kent
