Here is a question that kind of perplexes me. I just installed mutt 1.0i from the debian package and now get colors which are not defined in the global Muttrc file or in my user's .muttrc files. When I used the prerelease versions, I got the colors I wanted. I know that mutt will use the system Muttrc at /etc/Muttrc but I cannot find where mutt stores these values when I have no global file.
