8GB barrier is a not a limitation in at least 2.0.36 ..doubt it is in earlier ones too, i believe it is a LILO issue, it is not detecting the parameters of the drive correctly. Upgrade LILO or pass the parameters manually so the kernel knows what size the drive is. alisda >The problem with this is that cdfisk still thinks the disk is 8GB: alisda >there's no free space left at the end of the drive. alisda > alisda >Why's that? I had a similar problem, on an older LILO. Even on 2.1.xx kernels the system did not detect the drive geometry correctly so I could not run fdisk. however i could still mount the partitions and use them (i made them with pqmagic 4). Make sure the drive's settings in the BIOS are correct, and that you are running the latest LILO. I have run a 10.1GB IBM on slink 2.1r3 on both 2.0.36(that came with it) and 2.2.12 (that came with it) and 2.0.38 (that i compiled myself. Also make sure you are not using any of that disk loader crap.. the special drive header info that some people install to get their system to work 'beyond' the 8GB barrier. i think its called EZDisk EZdrive..something like that. its for real old systems. if you are using this you gotta load linux from loadin after that drive software loads. nate ----------------------------------------[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ]-- Vice President Network Operations http://www.firetrail.com/ Firetrail Internet Services Limited http://www.aphroland.org/ Everett, WA 425-348-7336 http://www.linuxpowered.net/ Powered By: http://comedy.aphroland.org/ Debian 2.1 Linux 2.0.36 SMP http://yahoo.aphroland.org/ -----------------------------------------[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ]-- 8:29am up 82 days, 19:59, 1 user, load average: 1.56, 1.51, 1.57
