I've had no luck with X under potato: see post late on 1999-11-06, Subject: Cannot chown /dev/pts/0 to 0:0 ... What happens when you just try xinit (assuming you've gotten xdm out of the way, with /etc/init.d/xdm stop or otherwise)? Keith
