syslogd-listfiles uses the wildcard to decide if the log is rotated weekly or daily.
syslogd-listfiles will return debug as rotated weekly. *.=debug;\ auth,authpriv.none;\ news.none;mail.none -/var/log/debug but if you change entry to below, syslogd-listfiles will reuturn debug as rotated dialy. *.*;\ auth,authpriv.none;\ news.none;mail.none -/var/log/debug Since you don't want to log everything in debug, therefore, you need to either modify the syslogd-listfiles to return the files you want, or just modify the crontab to rotate the logs you want without using syslogd-listfiles.
