Gosh, I wish there were some (to get rid of jazzy backgrounds that some people use. What would this preference be called in Netscape 2.01? No, I can only guess at what's going on. The first few lines of the document source are (wrapped arbitrarily): <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Slashdot:News for Nerds. Stuff that Matters. </TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgcolor="#000000" text="#000000" link="#006666" vlink="#000000"> <center><a href="http://209.207.224.220/redir.pl?968" target="_top"><img src="http://209.207.224.220/servfu.pl?i,968,2187825" alt="Please click here." border=2 width=468 height=60></a></center> <TABLE BORDER=0 CELLPADDING=0 CELLSPACING=0> <TR><TD WIDTH=1><SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT"> Those colours are a recipe for disaster, I'd say. The remainder of the code contains things with other colours, and presumably this patchwork of objects builds up into what you all see. My browser perhaps can't match the level of sophistication used at this site, so the missing colours just don't cover up all the black. Is that a reasonable guess? Or am I on the wrong tack. I've been looking at slashdot with lynx and notice that you can login. Is this a wise move, or will I be inundated with junk mail? Are there preferences which then become available?
