If you need to look at splitting an ext2 partition. Have a look at ext2resize. It seems to work for me, but MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR FILESYSTEM MOUNTED READ-WRITE, OR IT WILL GET CORRUPTED IRREVOCABLY.
