Ciao, I have bought 2 IBM EIDE DJNA 13.5 Gb to do RAID under Linux. It works ... not complitely.
Short question: is it possible to have more than 4 md-devices? I can't do it. Devices md0 md1 md2 md3 works ok, no problem, but I want to setup md4 and md5 too. This is the situation: /usr/share/doc/raidtools$ fdisk -l /dev/hdb Disk /dev/hdb: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 1650 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hdb1 1 1650 13253593+ 5 Estesa /dev/hdb5 1 486 3903732 83 Linux /dev/hdb6 487 972 3903763+ 83 Linux /dev/hdb7 973 1458 3903763+ 83 Linux /dev/hdb8 1459 1474 128488+ 82 Linux swap /dev/hdb9 1475 1490 128488+ 82 Linux swap /dev/hdb10 1491 1650 1285168+ 83 Linux /usr/share/doc/raidtools$ fdisk -l /dev/hdd Disk /dev/hdd: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 26310 cylinders Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hdd1 1 26310 13260208+ 5 Estesa /dev/hdd5 1 7750 3905937 83 Linux /dev/hdd6 7751 15500 3905968+ 83 Linux /dev/hdd7 15501 23250 3905968+ 83 Linux /dev/hdd8 23251 23498 124960+ 82 Linux swap /dev/hdd9 23499 23746 124960+ 82 Linux swap /dev/hdd10 23747 26310 1292224+ 83 Linux twins :-) /usr/share/doc/raidtools$ cat /etc/raid/raid1.conf # Sample raid-1 configuration ############ # /usr raiddev /dev/md0 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 device /dev/hdb5 raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdd5 raid-disk 1 ############ # /usr/local raiddev /dev/md1 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 device /dev/hdb6 raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdd6 raid-disk 1 ############ # /usr/dati raiddev /dev/md2 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 device /dev/hdb7 raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdd7 raid-disk 1 ########### # swap1 raiddev /dev/md3 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 device /dev/hdb8 raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdd8 raid-disk 1 ########### # swap2 raiddev /dev/md4 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 device /dev/hdb9 raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdd9 raid-disk 1 ########## # /var raiddev /dev/md5 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 device /dev/hdb10 raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdd10 raid-disk 1 I would like to mount: /dev/md0 /usr /dev/md1 /usr/local /dev/md2 /usr/local/dati /dev/md3 swap1 /dev/md4 swap2 /dev/md5 /var AH! /usr/share/doc/raidtools$ dir /dev/md* brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 0 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md0 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 1 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 10 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md10 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 11 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md11 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 12 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md12 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 13 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md13 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 14 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md14 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 15 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md15 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 2 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md2 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 3 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md3 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 4 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md4 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 5 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md5 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 6 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md6 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 7 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md7 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 8 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md8 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 9 Oct 21 23:09 /dev/md9 /usr/share/doc/raidtools$ cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [3 raid1] read_ahead 128 sectors md0 : active raid1 hdb5 hdd5 3903616 blocks [2/2] [UU] md1 : active raid1 hdb6 hdd6 3903680 blocks [2/2] [UU] md2 : active raid1 hdb7 hdd7 3903680 blocks [2/2] [UU] md3 : active raid1 hdb8 hdd8 124864 blocks [2/2] [UU] but md4 and md5 ???
