i've tried 'discover', 'mdetect' and 'read-edid' (that last one locked up my debian worse than The Blue Screen Of Death on my wife's machine). what other probes are available -- is there a magic phrase that brings them up on google or maybe even packages.debian.org? (kudzu generates a nice write-up on what it finds, but i'm no closer to the resolution i once had under potato...) $ apropos probe clockprobe (8) - a Textmode/XWindows pixel clock probe modprobe (8) - high level handling of loadable modules $ apropos video ramsize (8) - query/set image root device, RAM disk size, or video mode rdev (8) - query/set image root device, RAM disk size, or video mode rootflags (8) - query/set image root device, RAM disk size, or video mode vidmode (8) - query/set image root device, RAM disk size, or video mode xviddetect (1) - a script for detecting PCI video cards that last one at least gave the old college try. It's easy: cat /proc/cpuinfo There's lots of other neat stuff under /proc, too. (You guessed it -- "man proc" will tell you more.) For kernel and Debian data, try uname -a cat /etc/debian_version Also see http://newbieDoc.sourceForge.net/ ... -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
