That's up to you.  Diald has the advantage of filtering: you can control
what types of packets bring up the link and set different for different
sorst of packets.  'pppd demand' will bring up the link for any outgoing
packet and keep it up until the idle timer expires.  It also requires a 2.2
kernel.

On the other hand, diald is a hack.
