Debian has a .deb archive containing the source code for the 3dfx device (loadable module), but lacks an achive containing the device drivers themselves. This is most likely due to the significant differences among 3dfx based chipsets (ie voodoo, voodoo2, banshee, voodoo3). Some are 3D only, some are 2D/3D solutions requiring a special X server. Check out www.linux3d.org for currernt drivers and info. This page has the most current info as it is maintained by the developer of the 3dfx drivers for linux. He also has X servers specific to banshee, rush and v3 based boards posted. Also, read the 3dfx and Quake howtos as they discuss 3dfx hardware acceleration at length. You will also want to read www.mesa3d.org for info regarding the role Mesa plays in conjunction with 3dfx based cards. BTW, Mesa 3.0 and GLUT are available as .deb archives. Also, 3dfx has some good instructions for getting the drivers and device module installed. Check out www.3dfx.com, but download the drivers from linux3d. Also, keep in mind that Alien allows you to convert RPMs to Debian archives for installation, however the nuances of package management are beyond the scope of this e-mail.
