Hi folks Ok, this has gone beyond my knowledge of memory.
I wondered how much memory StarOffice 5.1 took -- and it appears to need quite a bit, based on this display from top: 2:10am up 3 days, 3:12, 6 users, load average: 1.56, 1.64, 1.83 71 processes: 67 sleeping, 4 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped CPU states: 0.5% user, 1.1% system, 98.2% nice, 0.0% idle Mem: 127888K av, 125612K used, 2276K free, 74260K shrd, 11360K buff Swap: 130748K av, 76K used, 130672K free 65440K cached PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT LIB %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND 19915 sarnold 10 0 38628 37M 26996 R 0 0.0 30.2 0:08 soffice.bin 19927 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19928 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19929 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19930 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19931 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19932 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19933 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19934 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19935 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19936 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19937 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19938 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin 19939 sarnold 0 0 38628 37M 26996 S 0 0.0 30.2 0:00 soffice.bin I realize that 26 megs of each process is shared among all of them -- but that should mean... 26+14*11 megs are in use by StarOffice -- right? That works out to 180 megs (roughly) -- and this machine has 128. 76k of swap are in use. Any explanations? :) Thanks -- Seth Arnold | http://www.willamette.edu/~sarnold/ Hate spam?
