Well, that is one way... If you don't mind setting up squid you can use it with a redirecter (there are several out there; I found references to them using www.google.com and search words similar to "squid redirector ad blocker"). I think there are smaller proxies that are intended just for this purpose, so maybe squid is far beyond anything you might need.
