If you have Athlon processor, it's better to use 2.4.20 kernel from unstable or you need patch for kernel 2.4.18 and below. If your mainboard is VIA chipset you should set the AGP value between 0xEA to 0xEE from BIOS. These two points are written in the manual of the NVIDIA driver.
