You would use alien if you downloaded the rpm package. You always want to
be careful doing this, just in case...

glibc 2 and libc 5 are two different versions of the basic C
libraries. Slink is based on glibc 2.0, while potato is based on 2.1. In
either case, the glibc 2 version should be what you need.
