Leave off the exec part. For instance, in ~/.xsession #!/bin/bash
rxvt& # plain rxterm rxvt -e mutt & # rxvt with mutt running inside of it exec fvwm2 # exec window manager as last item Make sure ~/.xsession is executable (chmod 700 ~/.xsession).
