As another poster has said, WindowMaker is VERY nice. With Windowmaker, you get the best of both worlds. I run GNOME/GTK applications (XMMS, gftp, gvim), KDE/Qt applications (kexpress, empath, licq), and WindowMaker applications (lots of cool dock apps like asclock, wmmon, etc, and wterm). > > I am currently downloading gnome as I type this. You also need a GNOME compatible Window Manager. task-gnome-wm will get most of them and a whole load of themes. Or you could just get one: icewm, enlightenment, or wmaker (wmaker-gnome works well with the panel). Check out screenshots at icewm.themes.org, enlightenment.themes.org, or wm.themes.org. > > All you gnome users out there, if there are any "gotchas" you think I > should know please let me know via private email. After a couple of days, gnome-session started launching my panel without a WindowManager. After about the third time I did "rm -rf '~/.gnome'", I ditched it. IMHO, its much more reliable to just put this in .xsession: #! /bin/sh panel & exec enlightenment # or any other window manager Good luck. Also, if you want to try out kde (perhaps just create a user called kde to test it), or just use some of the cool KDE apps, then add this to your sources.list: deb ftp://kde.tdyc.com/pub/kde/debian slink kde contrib -- Stephen Pitts [EMAIL PROTECTED] webmaster - http://www.mschess.org
