I'm trying to get my HP8100i CD-RW to function in Linux (it works okay in Windows), and I'm having problems with IDE-SCSI emulation.
I've installed the SCSI emulation, SCSI support, SCSI generic support and SCSI CD-ROM support modules into my 2.2.9 kernel. lsmod gives: Module Size Used by ppp_deflate 40548 0 (autoclean) slhc 4328 0 (autoclean) (unused) bsd_comp 3632 0 (autoclean) ide-floppy 8364 1 (autoclean) nls_iso8859-1 2020 3 (autoclean) nls_cp437 3548 3 (autoclean) sg 10680 0 (unused) scsi_mod 49256 1 [sg] slip 7176 0 (unused) ppp 19936 0 [ppp_deflate bsd_comp] parport_pc 5556 1 (autoclean) lp 5148 0 (unused) parport 7092 1 [parport_pc lp] umsdos 24248 0 (unused) msdos 6620 0 [umsdos] vfat 11292 3 fat 25632 3 [umsdos msdos vfat] According to the CD-Writing HOWTO I've done everything I should have (I think) but cdrecord -scanbus replies: [root%letdown /home/alisdair] # cdrecord -scanbus Cdrecord release 1.8a20 Copyright (C) 1995-1999 Jörg Schilling cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open SCSI driver. So I tried: [root%letdown /home/alisdair] # cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd cdimage.iso Cdrecord release 1.8a20 Copyright (C) 1995-1999 Jörg Schilling scsidev: '/dev/hdd' devname: '/dev/hdd' scsibus: -2 target: -2 lun: -2 cdrecord: Bad file descriptor. Cannot open SCSI driver. Has anyone any idea what I've done wrong? Thanks in advance, -- alisdair mcdiarmid [everything is plastic and we're all going to die]
