I just instaled on a 3000. The mai problem I had was when the pcmcia module locked the machine. It required passing irq_list=# to the module. You can look at the PCMCIA-HOWTO for more info, plus a link to a site where they have info on specific systems (this is where I got the page for the Inspiron 3000, they also have one for 7000's).
