Internal or external? If external, you can be almost certain it's not a winmodem. If it's external or jumpered, make sure you know what IRQ, etc it's using. If it's internal and not jumpered or if it's PnP, see what settings Windows uses (I assume you still have Windows on this box), and then use those settings in Linux.
