If I recall correctly If I recall correctly the map file is used to provide symbolic identifiers for debugging kernels. So the kernel needs this to "not work" better. This is explained somewhere in /usr/scr/linux/Documentation/. Maybe oops-tracing.txt. rob [EMAIL PROTECTED]
