Peronsally, I compiled it from source and it was fine. There are some
RedHat instructions on the site that you can use to determine what
order to compile the stuff in. After that, get a book, and do 
"CFLAGS=-O2 ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/gnome" for all of
the files. I'd suggest shoving the whole mess in 
/usr/local/gnome/{bin,lib,share} so you can easily remove it. I 
had a problem where I mis-linked a whole bunch of the files and I 
had to start over.
