I had thought I copied the list. A fine individual named Ulf yesterday said "just delete the failed symlink."
I did, and it's all working fine now. Many thanks, though. That would at least had gotten deselect and the other failing software working, but the package dependencies would still have found the broken symlink and failed to install.
