Ah ha, there's the problem . . . you said in your previous post that: "I have installed my printer hp deskjet 500 with magicfilterconfig The device is assigned to /dev/lp0."
Evidently your parrallel port is lp1 and not lp0, so rerun magicfilterconfig,
and
specify /dev/lp1 as the port instead of /dev/lp0.
