To fix this, you should boot into single user mode. If you use LILO to boot, you can boot to single user by typing the word 'single' after the name of the kernel image that you boot: LILO boot: <image> single The kernel will boot, then you'll be asked for the root password. Since xdm is now moved into a separate package, you could probably just do "dpkg - --remove xdm" and delete it from your system if you dont' want it anymore. Otherwise, just delete the S**xdm symlink from /etc/rc*.d. noah PGP public key available at http://lynx.dac.neu.edu/home/httpd/n/nmeyerha/mail.html or by 'finger -l [EMAIL PROTECTED]' This message was composed in a 100% Microsoft free environment. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 iQCVAwUBNulPW4dCcpBjGWoFAQEWewP/ZJfxAIo2OS3Ju3hlLRr+sk7CW1VxNDaK huP6S3ETfU7XffX1MlLNIbTQeP9iq8X0Xhf1B2Yi4/moerohTh+GO1KbC+DsX9kK oGCBj+u7/e6aB33wD5umHMxrl8QSeKE8AbjbrrWK605SRrDcvx5vHR4dAzOkDuW4 +N8axW2QjP8= =QUx2 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
