Ok here goes : I installed kde as follows : 1. qt 2. kdesupport 3. kdelibs 4. kdebase
The installation was fine. Then i edited /etc/profile and added : PATH=$PATH:/opt/kde/bin KDEDIR=/opt/kde export KDEDIR Next i created a .xinitrc file in my /root dir and added startkde in it. I logged out, logged in, gave startx command. It starts X server, but jumps back to the prompt with the following error : /root/.xinitrc: startkde: command not found waiting for X server to shutdown debian~# Ok, now where did i screw up ??? TIA.
