Mine does this: 1. Automatically put messages from verious mailing lists in their own folders. Nice and organized. I use fetchmail/smail/nmh/exmh/slocal 2. I can sort any such folder "by subject" by clicking a button.

I believe some mail fetchers can look at headers and only download what you want daytime. If you can't get that working, get one of those free email accounts somewhere and subscribe all your mailing lists to the other account. Fetch mail from the other account at night only, and get your important daytime mails on your current account. This should take care of your phone bills. "Fetchmail" has no problem fetching from several mail accounts. Helge Hafting
