I would recommend C++ How to Program by Deitel and Deitel. That was my C++ text book and I believe they reference K&R alot. However, I like one of the former recommendations of learn programming and especially pseudocode first. I learned C++ syntax easily, but couldn't program worth a dang until I learned about programming in general. However, I still don't program very well.

Also the exercises are good. I had a little experience with basic and fortran at the time.
