I installed debian on a professor's machine yesterday, but have hit a barrier: we don't know what the video "card" that it uses is. Unix/ linux tech support in our department is non-existent (which is why he asked me for help). It can't even tell us what card type to use in configuration. The best he could come up with is that "matrox" usually works. However, we've hung the machine (not just X) three times this way.
Does anyone know what setting to use? rick --
