To disable the --MARK--, edit /etc/syslog.conf liske so:
*.=debug;\
auth,authpriv.none;\
news.none;mail.none -/var/log/debug
*.=info;*.=notice;*.=warn;\
auth,authpriv.none;\
cron,daemon.none;\
mail,mark.none,news.none -/var/log/messages
Note the `mark.none' above.
