I'm getting a strange problem with hwclock on my toshiba laptop (Satellite
4000CDT).

I set the hardware and system clocks correctly and everything is working
properly. As long as I don't reboot, all is well. As soon as I reboot my
/etc/adjtime file is rewritten and the date is changed (i.e. to Saturday 4
April). The first "seconds figure in /etc/adjtime is reduced from 913499745 to
891686657, which I supposed explains the date error.

Moreover, the date of the rewritten file is odd: Jan 1 199O!

Can anyone please suggest what is happening? Could the problem be in the kernel
I'm using on the laptop (it's different from the desktop one, but both are
2,0.36).
