Actually the prompt belongs to 'mbr'. According to the docs for 'mbr', the prompt shows up when there is keyboard activity or a problem loading the first sector of the default partition. > It means > press 1 to boot off the first partition This will work if lilo is installed on the first partition. Give it a shot. > press f to boot off the floppy > press a to list all partitions > Check to make sure that lilo is installed and setup. You should be able to access your root partition from the rescue floppy if mbr does not boot the linux partition. Take a look in /usr/doc/lilo for info on setting up lilo.
