It'd have to be an extra option, similiar to egcs, because Linus won't
be upgrading anytime soon and he and some of the other kernel
developers have reported problems compiling parts of the kernel with
gcc >= 2.8.x and egcs.

So, for the foreseeable future, 2.7.2.x is the only supported compiler
for compiling Linux kernels.
