I am one of many who support an international academic institute. One thing I am truly pleased about in our system is the ability for kdm (KDE's version of the xdm login manager) to offer a selection of window managers at login time. This allows users to select their prefered window manager.
I believe it would be a nice feature if such functionality was the default in Debian. As window managers are installed onto a system, they become available to the user at login time. This would be similar to the Debian menu system where each application automatically becomes available when it is installed. I say, let the users decide what manager to run. jm Joey Hess wrote: > > > > Is Debian, like RedHat, going to still consider Gnome to be the official > > kit for their distribution? > > Debian doesn't have an official mail daemon, window manager, text editor, > etc. Gnome isn't our official desktop, neither is KDE. >
