It's nice that it's only X that crashes, rather than linux, but I've discovered a family of crashes that require a reboot anyway.
Typically these come from running RealPlayer. Particularly, in 16bpp rather than 8. THe problem is far worse when the realplayer server is badly loaded. netscape also agravates. Anyway, the result is a "Hung in ApmSync()". After this error, any attempt to restart X before reboot fails, either with the blinkies or with the same message. (and once the blinkies start, the only solution from the console is a three fingered salute while in the console phase, though killing xdm remotely can do it). Is there an initilization possible to clear everything that X might find from it's last instance? I don't see one; it appears fromthe docs that this is *supposed* to happen. rick --
