I have an HP Omnibook 3000, 13.3" XGA TFT screen with a NeoMagic card. Although there is a functional X server for that card, I would personally recommend against it. Not to mention that SVGAlib doesn't like it :) Aside from the video card, I haven't had any problems installing Debian on it. From other comments I've read, it seems prudent to stay away from IBM and Toshiba, but YMMV...
