Thanks... but I went ahead and erased the drive, because I was having other problems anyway. I reinstalled Debian. I haven't installed X yet, which brings me to another question (sorry for all the newbie questions). 1. How can I tell dselect not to install the "suggested" packages? I just want the five X deb's, not the whole stinkin' 35 MB. 2. How can I avoid my mouse problem in the future? Should I specify my IntelliMouse as just a PS/2 mouse? Or is there something I needed to set while installing kernel modules? (How can I go back and do that without reinstalling everything?!) The reason it happened was because it wouldn't launch for testing: it would crash until I reboot, which caused my original problem. 2a) If I configure X to not run at startup, can I change my mind later? That's it for today. Expect more of my whining tomorrow! :-( But hey, you gotta start learning somewhere.
