latin-alt.el is part of the leim library. I don't know if it is part of Debian. It is a compile time option. I recomend that you upgrade to Emacs 20.3, anyway. A lot of bugs were fixed. Get emacs-20.3.tar.gz and leim-20.3.tar.gz from prep.ai.mit.edu or one of its mirrors. -- party naked
