Yes scanners do work on Linux. I am using a Mustek scanner with a Adansys scsi card and it works great and it is easy to setup using SANE to control the scanner. Mustek is not what I consider a great scanner but it is the only one I have set up under Linux. Here is the url for SANE http://www.mostang.com/sane/.
