I disagree with #2 -- /usr/lib has many directories for other stuff besides runtime libs and objects. /usr/lib/netscape/whatever i agree that any FILE in a lib directory should be a lib, but subdir's are up to the admin. Personally.. i have my custom print filters and ps driver files in /usr/local/lib/razprint.
