? What do you want to achieve/avoid?

If you want to convert files, and only need a safety belt, "-i" is fine. It
will run in most of tpossible cases. If you have to rename each and every
file, nothing will really help you. "-i" does only ask if there is a
conflict, Steve.

For the case the original poster presented, "-i" is quite sufficient, and
doesn't require perl to work.
