If you have power glitches sufficient to mess up your modem, it's likely to also stress the workstation, too, particularly the drives. If your power quality's that bad, you may have brownouts you don't notice and such. All of this reduces the life of your equipment. I'd recommend a UPS that has some power conditioning. They're getting fairly cheap now.
