I'm not sure what you want but with
mutt -f /var/spool/mail/joey
and
elm -f /var/spool/mail/joey
you're able to read my mail as root. You should not do that as it would
break uses privacy.
If the user has problems reading its own mail please check the
permissions of the mail file in /var/spool/mail.
