Stick with "hamm" it is very stable in my opinion and it should be
released as final soon.

Where does the install go wrong? Is it the same place every time?  What
error messages do you get?  You mentioned that you are doing a fresh
install so you should *not* have to run the autoup.sh script.

No.  If you installed hamm from scratch an upgrade isn't necessary.

If you get through the basic install( i.e. the 7-8floppies or
base2.0.tar.gz) then you should let us know what exactly dselect is
compaining about.

If I remember correctly "less" is not included on the base-install disks.

Can you ping other computers?  Are your routes right?  Are you you static
or dynamic IP's?  Does your ethernet card show up if you read through
"dmesg |more"?
