You've lost touch with reality. First off, here is a dose of reality. Linux didn't create the free software/open source movement. The FSF did. >> And I can buy PCs without Windows. Consider that a pop quiz for ya. >Well, there's a few people that would like your hookups then, because a >*lot* of people complain that they can't get a built box without an OS. From the major vendors? No. But any schmuck in a (red) hat can pick up a copy of the Linux Journal and find at least 10 ads for places that will build PCs with any OS they chose on it, from Windows to Linux, OS/2 to FreeBSD. Personally, I'm waiting for them to offer BeOS as well. As for me, it is simple. I buy the parts, build my own. I've built my own since my first PC was bought, a Hyundai 386sx-16 w/DOS 6.22 on it and nothing else. I realized long ago, 9 years now, that the big names also equate to proprietary configurations, lock you into a single upgrade path (same vendor) which you pay through the ass for and only until they discontinue the model. Since then I have traded, bartered and hinted for gifts on computer equiptment. I've gone through 4 computers since then, every since one I built from new and old parts. In fact, I currently have three of them running, one of which I just sold on eBay. Solid 486, just don't need it any more. >> They belong on every platform. >Bah.
